Pikstrapi vs IMG.LY

Embedding a creative editor in your own product is a different decision from giving your team a place to generate assets. Start by defining who owns the editing experience.

The difference that matters

IMG.LY's CreativeEditor SDK brings design, photo and video editing into applications across platforms. It supports templates and automation, including headless design workflows.

When to consider IMG.LY

Consider IMG.LY when editing is a feature your customers must use inside your application. Define the controls, permissions and device support you need before evaluating the integration and its licence.

When to try Pikstrapi

Try Pikstrapi when your team needs to maintain templates and produce their variants in a separate creative workflow. Evaluate whether a hosted editor and API connection are enough for your actual use case.

Compare the work, not just the feature list.

An event platform needs promotional graphics

There are two possible products: organizers edit graphics directly within the event platform, or an internal team prepares templates and generates assets from event data. Write those journeys separately. The first needs an embedded interface; the second may only need a reliable connection from data to a completed graphic.

Run a trial that helps you decide.

Start with a copy of a representative design. Keep your current workflow while you compare results; a useful trial does not require migrating your entire library.

  1. Sketch the user journey and mark every place where editing must happen. Distinguish customer-facing controls from internal template maintenance.
  2. For the internal workflow, build a Pikstrapi template using an event title, date and image. Generate several event assets through the API.
  3. Review where users see and change the result. If embedding remains mandatory, test that requirement through an SDK prototype rather than a standalone editor demo.

A question before switching

Is a hosted editor equivalent to an editor SDK?

No. Decide where the interface lives, who customizes it and how it connects to your application's identity and permissions. A render API can satisfy an asset-production task without satisfying the requirement to embed editing inside your product.
